Delta State University Medical Alumni Hosts Inspiring Seminar Series Featuring Dr. Borke

The DELSU Medical School Alumni Association (DUMSAA) Interim Board is pleased to announce the continuation of its engaging Seminar Series, inviting all esteemed alumni to join the latest session. This upcoming event, scheduled for Monday, April 21st, 2025, at 5:00 PM, promises to be an inspiring and valuable experience for all attendees.

Building on the insightful discussions of past events, the theme for this session remains pertinent: “Building a Formidable Alumni.” The seminar aims to provide a platform for alumni to connect, learn, and grow together, with a focus on strengthening the alumni network, supporting the university, and fostering professional advancement. The event will be held virtually via the Zoom platform, ensuring easy access for all alumni.

A highlight of this session is a highly anticipated “Meet and Greet” segment featuring Dr. Borke Moghene Emona, a beloved faculty member who holds a cherished place in the memories of countless Delta State University medical graduates. Dr. Emona’s presence is sure to enrich the discussion with his wealth of knowledge and experience, providing a unique opportunity for alumni to reconnect with a familiar and respected figure.

The Interim Board Chair, Dr. Kennedy O. Obohwemu, emphasized the importance of this ongoing initiative, stating that the Seminar Series serves as a vital platform for connection, learning, and collective growth for alumni. The Assistant PRO for the Interim Board, Dr. Victor Ifeanyi-Nze, reiterated the value of the series, encouraging alumni to arrange their itinerary, mark their calendars, and set their alarms, as this event promises to be just as inspiring and mind-blowing as previous sessions.

The DELSU Medical School Alumni Association Interim Board encourages all Delta State University Medical Student Alumni to continue their participation in this valuable series and eagerly anticipates their presence online. About Dr. Borke

Dr. Borke Moghene Emona, born January 22, 1956, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, completed his primary and secondary education in the then Bendel State before graduating from Edo College, Benin City, in 1974. Following a brief period as a science teacher, he pursued his medical education at the University of Benin.

During his time at the University of Benin, Dr. Borke was actively involved in student leadership, culminating in his role as Speaker of the University Student Union Congress. He also joined the Nigerian Army Medical Corps as a student cadet.

Upon graduating and completing his housemanship at Central Hospital Benin City (1982/83), Dr. Borke underwent military training and served in various command positions within the Nigerian Army Medical Corps, including tours in Ibadan, Benin City, Maiduguri, Liberia, and Jaji, ultimately retiring voluntarily in 1996.

Subsequently, Dr. Borke pursued a residency program in Pathology with a specialization in Haematology and Blood Transfusion at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. This led to his employment at Delta State University, Abraka, as a Lecturer I and Consultant Haematologist at the Teaching Hospital in Oghara. He retired from these roles as a Senior Lecturer and Chief Consultant Grade 1 in 2021.

Following his retirement, Dr. Borke served as a Contract Senior Lecturer at Edo University Iyamho for three years, concluding in March 2024. He is celebrated for his significant contributions to medical education at both Delta State University and Edo University Iyamho.
