The first of three Regional Finals in the prestigious 2017 ANA/ROTARY LITERARY CONTEST FOR SCHOOLS & COLLEGES took place today at Abdulaziz Memorial College, Okene.
Schools from all five local government areas of Kogi Central Senatorial District were ably represented in the intellectual showpiece.
The schools present had previously scaled through the first round of the competition, which was Essay Writing. This time around, the categories featured were Quiz and Spelling Bee.
At the end of the Sub-Regional Finals, the following emerged champions for their respective local governments:
1. Ajaokuta LGA
Government Science Secondary School, Adogo, Ajaokuta
2. Adavi LAG
Government Science Secondary School, Ogaminana
3. Ogori/Magongo LGA
Community Secondary School, Ogori
4. Okehi LGA
Ruth Elton Secondary School, Obangede
Demonstration Standard College, Onyukoko
The champions from each LGAs were made to lock horns against each other in the Regional Finals which followed almost immediately. At the end of the keenly contested race, the following emerged winners:
1st Place – Demonstration Standard College, Onyukoko
2nd Place – Ruth Elton Secondary School, Obangede
3rd Place – Government Science Secondary School, Ogaminana
Congratulating winners at the event, the State Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors who doubles as the President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Lokoja Metro, Dr. Kennedy Obohwemu said everyone who participated in the competition were winners in their own right, adding that, “the overall aim of the competition is not to produce the best secondary school in Kogi State, but to enable the students gain that valuable experience which will ultimately serve as a necessary springboard for future success.”
As overall winners for the Regional Finals in Kogi Central Senatorial District, Demonstration Standard College, Onyukoko has gained automatic qualification for the Grand Finale which will hold in September. The school will meet Regional Finalists from Kogi East and Kogi West Senatorial Districts.
Footprints reports that major sponsors like Grace FM 95.5 and Confluence TV were on hand to cover events as they unfolded. Other notable sponsors whose branded souvenirs were visible at the event include PENKUP Foundation, 7-Up, Reverton Hotels, Thoughtful Touch Foundation, Glo, DHL, Golden Penny, among others.
The prestigious competition continues on Wednesday, July 5th, 2017 with the Sub-Regional and Regional Finals for Kogi East Senatorial District scheduled to hold at Bedrock International School, Anyigba. The program starts at 9am prompt.
For Kogi West Senatorial District, Regional Finals will hold on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at St. Monica’s College, Kabba. Before then, the Sub-Regional Finals for Lokoja LGA will hold on Friday, July 5th, 2017 at Faith Academy, Zango from 9am.
