All roads lead to the Confluence City of Lokoja for the Quarterly National Executive Council (NEC) Meeting of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA).
The December 2016 NEC Meeting, tagged ‘Confluence City 2016’ will hold in the Kogi State Capital from Monday, 5th December to Sunday, 10th December.
The theme for the NEC Meeting is ‘Governance and Leadership in the Health System: The Key to Efficient Healthcare Delivery’. The sub-themes are:
1. Postgraduate Medical Training in Nigeria: Challenges and Way Forward
2. Disputes in the Health Sector: Any Alternative to Strike?
Addressing newsmen over the weekend, the Chairman of the Kogi State NMA Dr. Magnus Ogaraku who doubles as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) Chairman said all is now set to host the epoch-making event. He assured delegates of unbeatable hospitality in the State Capital. He encouraged delegates to dress lightly due to the notoriously high temperatures and relative humidity in the region. The NMA National President Prof. Mike Ogirima who hails from Kogi State, assured all members of his unflinching support towards successful hosting of the NEC Meeting.
The program schedule is as follows:
MONDAY DECEMBER 5TH
Flag off of free health care outreaches to Ife-Olukotun, Agassa-Okene and Iyano-Ibaji by the NMA National President at 9:00am in Yagba East, Okene and Ibaji.
TUESDAY DECEMBER 6TH
Continuation of Health Missions in the rural areas.
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 7TH
Courtesy visit to His Excellency the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. A cocktail party will hold at Bazil Palace, Lokoja from 5pm.
THURSDAY DECEMBER 8TH
Opening Ceremony and Scientific Conference in Reverton Hotel, Lokoja at 11am.
FRIDAY DECEMBER 9TH and SATURDAY DECEMBER 10TH are for NEC Meetings I, II and III.
A red-carpet event (closing dinner and awards night) will hold on Saturday at the Christo Hall of Reverton Hotel from 5pm.
SUNDAY DECEMBER 11TH
World Press Conference and Departure.
Side attractions include: Boat Ride to the point of Confluence of Rivers Niger and Benue; a climb of Mountain Patti; visits to Colonial relics, traditional institutions and the Palace of the Maigari of Lokoja.
